What does Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month mean to you?

Asian American Heritage month is a reminder for me to connect with family and friends to celebrate who we are.

 

How do you celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month? How can others celebrate it?

I spend time with my family, cooking traditional dishes, and sharing stories about our cultural history.

 

How has your heritage shaped the person you are today? How has it influenced your career?

Growing up, I was taught that success is not only measured by personal achievements but by the contributions you make to your family and community.

 

Who are the role models or mentors that have influenced you or helped guide you?

My dad has always been a significant role model in our family. His unwavering dedication to his family, leads by example, demonstrates how to live with purpose and kindness.

 

Does your family have any traditions that are especially important to you?

Yes. TET is a significant celebration in our culture. It is time when we honor our ancestors, paying respect through rituals and offerings at the temple. We gather as a family to seek blessing for the year ahead, wishing for health, happiness, and prosperity. As part of the celebration involves red envelope “Li Xi” with new money – as a symbol of good luck and fortune.

 

Which Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month figure inspires you and why?

Michelle Yeoh. She is an iconic figure known for her groundbreaking career, advocacy for diversity, and constant evolution as an artist, all while staying true to her cultural roots. Beyond her acting, she has significantly impacted global entertainment and devotes much of her time to charitable and social causes.

 

What are your favorite traditional dishes? Do you have recipes for any of them to share?

Traditional dish is a sticky rice cake (wrapped in banana leaves) is a staple “TET” symbolizing family unify, good luck and prosperity.
