Our History

There’s been a lot that has happened over the past 75 years and we’re proud to have been on this journey with our members.

Mirastar Federal Credit Union (formerly Santa Clara County Federal Credit Union) was established in 1950 as Santa Clara County Employees Credit Union to serve employees and retirees of Santa Clara County. Built on cooperative banking principles, the credit union focused on offering reliable financial services to public sector employees in Santa Clara and San Benito Counties. In 1987, it transitioned to a federal charter and adopted the name Santa Clara County Federal Credit Union and for short, County Federal.

Over the decades, the credit union expanded its branch footprint and grew its membership to include local government and school employees, as well as many various nonprofits and small businesses. This growth allowed it to continually meet the evolving financial needs of its expanding community. In 2023, the credit union received an underserved area expansion, extending membership eligibility to nearly one million more people across Santa Clara, San Benito, and neighboring counties. In response to the diverse needs of its members, the credit union expanded its services to include loans, savings programs, and financial education, –always emphasizing accessible, community-centered banking. In 2024, the credit union rebranded as Mirastar Federal Credit Union, reflecting its mission to foster prosperity across the region and its commitment to supporting vibrant, thriving communities.

Celebrate International Credit Union Day with us.

Each year we come together to celebrate International Credit Union Day (ICU Day) to raise awareness about what it means for members around the world to have a credit union as their financial partner. We strive to inspire hope and bring our community together.

Creating green spaces that foster connection.

Our county parks are the hearts of our neighborhoods. We love spending time outdoors, and what makes us extra proud is the volunteer work we do while there. It’s rewarding to know that our efforts help to create spaces where the whole community can relax and enjoy time with their friends and families—and it’s something our team looks forward to and appreciates as community members ourselves.

Each year at Thanksgiving time we pause to reflect and share our gratitude for family, friends, our health, the food on our tables, and so many cherished moments. There is a lot to be thankful for in our lives.
