Mirastar Celebrates Latinx and Hispanic Heritage Month 2

Share post on

Meet Alvaro

What does Latin X & National Hispanic Month mean to you?

I think Latin X & National Hispanic Month is a time to celebrate the resilience and creativity Latinx/ Hispanic communities bring to our country. I also think that Latin X & National Hispanic Month is a time to reflect on the sacrifices our parents/ grandparents made and how their culture and traditions continue to shape us today.

How do you celebrate Latin X & National Hispanic Month? How can others celebrate it?

I celebrate this month by connecting with my family and friends, whether its by sharing a meal or just hanging out. I think others can celebrate this month by supporting Latinx-owned businesses, trying traditional foods, and learning about history and struggles that define this month.

How has your heritage shaped the person you are today? How has it influenced your career?

My heritage has taught me the value of hard work and family. I learned early on that nothing in this life is handed to you – you must work hard and earn what you want. This discipline continues to influence how I approach my career, especially when it comes to supporting others.

Who are the role models or mentors that have influenced you or helped guide you?

My biggest role models are both of my parents. Their influence has continued to guide me through some of the hardest challenges in life.

Does your family have any traditions that are especially important to you?

A tradition my family has is hanging out on Sunday afternoons when everyone is free to get together. We make time to eat and catch up on important things in our lives.

Which Latin X & National Hispanic figure inspires you and why?

Sonia Sotomayor is a Latin X & National Hispanic figure that inspires me and many others. I think she is influential because she teaches us that creating opportunities for others and ensuring fairness in every space is how we can build a strong and more inclusive society.

What are your favorite traditional dishes? Do you have recipes for any of them to share?

Carne Asada is my favorite dish, not only because it’s not hard to make, but it’s a meal that always brings my family together.
